North Richland Hills, TX 76180 Teachers: Brittany Smith (1st grade, WIN) & Tanner Holmes (4th grade math/science)
Internship with Tanner Holmes 4th grade! Being in 4th grade was a new experience for me. I was an intern in 1st grade the whole time last year. Once I got into the classroom, and and got to know the kids I started having so much fun! On a daily basis I am in there during math and science, I walk through the class and occasionally will teach. (Check out the lesson I created in Teaching Artifacts!) Mr. Holmes is such a great influence, and has been a very good mentor. He has taught me so much and I continue to learn every day I am in there.

More smartboard fun!
Internship with Brittany Smith, 1st grade! As much as I love my fourth graders and teaching along with Mr. Holmes, Mrs. Brittany Smith has been such an amazing mentor. Not only do I have her as my mentor this year, but I was lucky enough to have her as my mentor last year as well. As her intern I am normally in her class during WIN time where the students learn about math and reading on different days and they are split into their level of learning. I have enjoyed getting to know many of the other kids in other first grade classes and as well as the other teachers. Mrs. Smith has pushed me in all of my lessons and given me great ideas that have improved my confidence not only in teaching but overall as a person. Without Mrs. Smith as my mentor, I don't think I would be as confident in teaching, as I am today.

WRAD day!
WRAD (World Read Aloud Day) ACFT!
At my field site, Molly Howle and I got the opportunity to go to ACFT and participate in World Read Aloud Day, a day where many teachers, interns and even people in the Administration Building came to read to multiple classes throughout the school. Molly and I had written a book for a TAFE competition, so we were invited to volunteer to read our book to many classes throughout the school. We had such a great day reading our book, and the kids loved it. Many teachers and principals were raving about it.
2011-2012 Internship School:Academy at Carrie F. Thomas Address: 8200 O' Brian Way North Richland Hills, TX 76180 Principal: Dr. Sabrina Lindsey FS Teacher: Brittany Smith
I am in Mrs. Brittany Smith's first grade class at The Academy at Carrie F. Thomas. I created lessons plans along with teaching them. My day involved arriving at school, and while in the class I helped the kids with their math since that is the time that I am there. After math, the students go to specials and my teacher and I went over different lessons, I was able to sit on some meetings, and I was able to see the "behind the scenes," of becoming a teacher. I had a lot of fun learning from Mrs. Smith and I enjoyed learning about the kids in my class throughout the year. Below are pictures from both of my lessons
Spring lesson 2012: For my spring lesson I had the chance to use a class set of iPads and because I am in my class during math I had 3 different math apps that the students were using throughout the time I was there, and then they lined up for specials.
Fall lesson 2011: This is my picture and lesson that I created from the fall semester. I did a winter holiday survey with my students, they decorated a snowman or Christmas tree, and then got to pick their favorite part of winter and hang it on the poster.
